VALUES

One of the many privileges that I have as a therapist is the consistent opportunity to learn from and connect with folks whose world is different than mine. It is an honor to do this work while also being a wholly imperfect, limited, and sometimes ignorant human. I commit to supporting and honoring all people in our community with consciousness, compassion, and clarity.

  • Anti Racism Comittment

I am committed to anti-racism. I grieve the multi-layered oppression experienced in our various larger systems. I commit to continuing my internal anti-racism work. I commit to using my voice as a mental health professional, a woman, a wife, and a mother to speak out against all forms of oppression and unjust treatment and to take actions that move our community toward healing, transformation, and restoration.

  • LGBTQIA+

All people thrive in spaces that celebrate diverse experiences. All people deserve to feel empowered in the exploration of pursuing health in the evolution of their identity, sexuality, and intimacy in their relationships. I acknowledge the complicated and sometimes egregious backdrop of the mental health profession's homophobic treatment of LGBTQIA individuals. I also recognize what myself and much of our field have yet to learn in offering LGBTQIA individuals and families mental health care that is both genuinely compassionate and fully competent. I am committed to continuing personal expansion and professional engagement to best support the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQIA community while offering skilled, evidence-based care.

  • Land Acknowledgement

My work and life take place on the native lands originally inhabited by the People of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi peoples. The Three Fires People are indigenous to this land. I am a guest on this land. I acknowledge the histories and traditions of the people who originated here and who are still here. I commit to no longer ignoring but contending with the lineage of assimilation and colonization that has shaped the therapy world and healing work of all kinds, representing yet another deep and painful lament. May we be tireless in our efforts to look history truthfully in the face and respond with our lives accordingly.

AN INVITATION TO A BRAVE SPACE

Together we will create a bravespace

Because there is no such thing as a “safe space”

We exist in the real world

We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds.

In this space we seek to turn down the volume of the outside world.

We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere,

We call each other to more truth and love

We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow.

We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know.

We will not be perfect.

It will not always be what we wish it to be

But it will be our brave space together, And we will work on it side by side.
